Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we need multi-factor authentication?
Login credentials are more valuable than ever and are increasingly easy to compromise. Over 90% of breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords.
Muti-factor authentication enhances the security of your account by using secondary devices to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password.
Does using Microsoft Authenticator Mobile App give control to my smartphone, or imply any cost?
No. The Microsoft Authenticator Mobile App does not have access to change settings or remotely wipe your phone. Authentication notification requests require a minimal amount of data, and Microsoft covers the costs of authentication SMS and calls.
How will the multi-factor authentication change my login experience?
When logging in to your MS O365 account (Email, applications, etc) you will still need to enter your username and password. After inputting your login information, Microsoft requires you to validate your identity with a second method (MS Authentication App, Call back, SMS code, etc.)
If you do not have a smartphone, you can use a regular cell phone (SMS and calls) or landline (your office and/or your home) for the second-factor authentication. When you answer the phone call, you will get instructions to follow.
